Cosa é il lavoro invisibile? Il lavoro paziente, umile e grande svolto ogni giorno da milioni di persone, soprattutto(bisogna dirlo!) donne, nelle loro case, per le strade, negli ospedali, nelle case di cura, nelle associazioni, ovunque ci sia un bisogno e una risposta gratuita, spesso fatta per solo amore e senso di responsabilità. Quindi le tante mamme, zie e nonne che si occupano dei loro cari, i volontari nelle corsie delle case di cura, nei centri d’ascolto, di assistenza, negli oratori, con i bambini, con gli immigrati, con gli anziani o i disabili, chi offre il suo tempo per gli altri senza ricevere, a volte, nemmeno un grazie.
Cosa fare per rimarcare questo lavoro invisibile e, almeno per una giornata, dargli il valore e la visibilità
che merita?
Usiamo un foglio bianco, un semplice formato A4 dove, invece di un contratto e una paga, non scriviamo assolutamente niente, perché niente si aspetta in cambio chi opera per puro amore. Una pagina bianca da appendere alla finestra, sul parabrezza dell’auto, un contratto tra il lavoratore invisibile e la società, un niente per raccontare una storia o una speranza, un vuoto da riempire.
Ve lo immaginate, volontari, casalighe e casalinghi a volantinare fogli bianchi per la strada? a diffondere comunicati stampa completamente bianchi? ad appendere fogli bianchi alle porte e alle finestre?
Una scena di grande impatto se saremo in tanti a farlo, per una giornata, nata diversi anni fa in Canada e sostenuta dalla FEFAF (associazione delle donne casalinghe d’Europa) per ricordare a tutta la società che se anche non é riconosciuto o stimato come dovrebbe, il lavoro invisibile esiste e ci consente di andare avanti…

Invisible work, it counts!
In 2001, AFEAS in Canada set up the invisible work day and ever since, throughout de world, the first Tuesday of April has become a symbolic day. In 2009, it will be on Tuesday 7th April.
What is invisible work? Invisible work, unpaid, consists of all of the work done within the family and voluntary work done in the community, whatever the status of the person.
How to make invisible work visible? The recognition of the value of invisible work will improve the status of those who do it, generally women as mother and carers, without forgetting all forms of voluntary work in schools, hospitals, old peopleís homes, sports clubs and various associationsÖ
In 2009, itís difficult to understand the lack of recognition and support for men and women whose contribution to their family and the community is judged essential for its development and survival? How can we mark this day?
In 2009, we just ask to you to place a white sheet of paper on your window.
A white sheet of paper, what an idea!?
A white sheet of paper, a non-work contract, a blank contract between the invisible worker and society.
A white sheet of paper, no trace, no writing, no status.
A white sheet of paper, a legal and social vacuum
A white sheet of paper, a white leaf. A void, nothingness.
A white sheet of paper, blank, without any hope, a story to write.
A white sheet of paper, nothing to read, something to imagine.
In practice? Post a sheet of white paper (for example an A4size) on your windows, car windows. It is easy, cheap, but it may be visible if all those working behind the scenes take part.
Who for? All of you who are doing some manner of invisible work.
How can this have an impact? The more there are of you, the more your work will be noticed. Of course, this is once a year. Tell your friends, your family, and your associations. Also place a blank sheet at the window of the premises of the latter. Spread it as much as possible.
Contact your friends who are journalists and politicians. Send them the document.
And on the 7th of April, post your blank page!
Send a blank mail with the following as its subject: invisible work day. Go into the street and distribute a blank page to passers-by.
